Mamá the Alien/ Mamá La Extraterrestre

Written by René Colato Laínez

Sofía finds her mother's old green card that reads "Resident Alien."  She then thinks her mother is actually from outer space and in her confusion does research at the library on aliens.  She can't believe it is true but feels it is possible especially when she finds her mom wearing a facial mask not knowing that she is just preparing her skin to look beautiful for her citizenship ceremony.

I love this book for being lighthearted and funny.  I also remember my mami's Resident Alien" card and thinking it was a poor choice of words.  This is a great book to introduce the heavy topic of immigration and citizenship. - Review by Maceo Cabrera Estévez
